I found !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! recently and I’ve been lusting over their inventory for the past few days. This is the stuff I want to buy for my NB:

Kinja'd!!!

CF trunk lid with integrated duckbill spoiler

I’ve noticed paint flaking off on my OEM trunk lid, where the duckbill spoiler attaches to the trunk lid. Rather than having it repainted, I could shave 7 pounds by replacing the trunk lid with this CF beauty. By far the most expensive item in my cart, I’ve sent a message to CarbonMiata asking for more photos of the underside of the trunk and to confirm that there are provisions for license plate lights.

Kinja'd!!!

CF steering column cover

This OEM part has a large steel plate attached to the backside (why???), which causes the plastic mounting tab (not visible in this photo) to break, which then sags and looks bad. So I get to replace a broken part and save a bit of weight at the same time! This part is 100% being ordered regardless of the others , and I’m really excited to get this in the car.

Kinja'd!!!

CF windshield cowl grille

This will replace the faded black plastic bit between the hood and the windshield. I’ll probably order and install this the next time I have the windshield replaced (which has happened twice in my 6 years of ownership).

Kinja'd!!!

CF radiator panel

This is a nicely designed piece to help direct airflow into the radiator and not other parts of the engine bay.

Kinja'd!!!

CF side sills

My NB just has boring tan colored side sills. I’ve always thought about replacing them with the Mazdaspeed aluminum side sills, but never got around to it. These CF side sills ought to match my tan/black interior better anyway.

Kinja'd!!!

CF door cups

I mostly want these just to have some CF visible on the interior of the car. Arguably overpriced, I’ll probably order them anyway.

So altogether, these parts are about $1300 shipped. I haven’t done much to personalize how my car looks but these CF parts will help with that and also shed some weight in the process. Just waiting to hear back from them regarding those trunk lid details and then I think and order will be placed! Maybe not for everything here, but a few of these parts for sure.

I’m just glad I don’t have an NA or an NC Miata, as there are WAY more CF options for the interior and I would want to buy aaaaaaall of the trim pieces:

Lol I have a whole list of different parts I want for my BMWs in my bookmarks and its seriously scary the amount of stuff Id like to “eventually” get haha.

https://mooseheadengineering.com/#!/Spherical-Upper-Control-Arm-Bushings-E34/p/6647004/category=1512126

Just this morning I purchased some fancy new control arm bushings for my E34 that should really improve the handling. The amount of different various upgrades I want between the two cars is crazy, but over time they should just keep getting better and better which will keep me interested. Always a new project to be had

I’m liking the radiator panel, really cleans up that area and/or provides a shelf for tools .

Fair warning, it's a company based in China with long shipping times and even longer waits for customer support. I've ordered multiple items and every time they've sent the wrong part, wrong hardware, no hardware, etc. And I've waited months for things to be made right

... but why would you get unpaintable CF?

The OEM Miata hood is aluminum and incredibly lightweight as-is. You could save ~some~ weight with a CF hood, but you’d be paying a lot of money for not much weight savings.

I know they’re in China but I’ve heard fairly good things about their customer support. What have you ordered from them?

aha... well that makes sense then

i’d still be tempted if i had one

(but tbh... the biggest weightsaving to a car i could make right now is getting myself fit again... need to lose about 30kg)

...because CF? In all honesty the unpainted carbon ought to look quite nice with my Miata’s dark green paint:

The only thing that would give me pause is that it seems they are PRC based, but they seem to be well reviewed on a few Miata forums from a very cursory look.

I like their quilted interior kits although those would probably not be what your looking for in weight savings.

Yeah, if this shop had just opened up and were taking new orders I’d be pretty wary, but this outfit has been active for at least four or five years now.

The quilted bits are nice! Once I pull the trigger on a roll bar (not anytime soon), I’ll rip out the soft top and put one of these nice quilted rear parcel shelf covers in.

Black brushed Aluminum door panels, with the Mazda logo speaker grills, and I’m blanking on my other orders.

They sent me incorrect hardware the first time, responded a month late, finally sent the right stuff, it arrived after another three weeks, and even with the right hardware... Fitment was pretty terrible. Holes didn’t line up at all with either o f the doors, so it took a fair amount of work to get things looking good. But after all that.... The doors look amazing!

I love how the guy makes new parts all the time, but if you order I really recommend contacting him through the forums for better service.

Thanks for the info. I’ll probably end up ordering just the steering column panel to start out and I’ll see how that goes.

Go for broke! Get some CF RIMZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!

Im sure you can find incomplete sets from GT 350s that were totalled after consuming large groups of Cars and Coffee Visitors.

Good luck! The guy who started it is pretty cool. If you want anything customized in any way, he'll most likely do it

You reminded me how much I want solid aluminum door cups/lock mechanisms. So sexy, but $450 (per side )

Nobody’s ever succeeded in convincing me “CF for the sake of CF” looks good except in small trim doses. I’ve never seen an unpainted CF body panel that doesn’t look like ass. Because real CFRP is chock full of waves, slight imperfections, odd transitions, the works.

Real CFRP, in other words, ain’t pretty . The prettied up CFRP stuff, usually weighs close to the steel or aluminum part, thanks to the 50 coats of lacquer and polish on it. Lightweight CFRP parts look like ass.

Kinja'd!!!

That’s a real CFRP door. Looks great at ten feet. Looks like absolute shit up close, because it’s NOT got ten pounds of lacquer like the blade panel on this one. The weave doesn’t look consistent because of the complex shapes. And so on. Plus, who the hell wants that half-gray zig-zag ugliness sticking out on one panel? Just looks awful to me regardless of the color. Gotta do it right or not at all.

Supposedly the reason for the steel plate inside the steering column cover has something to do with crash protection, keeping your knees/legs from going up into the underside of the dashboard.

You might want to get the those carbon fiber parts clear-coated once more to reduce the effect of UV discoloring it to a shade of yellow.

I’m cautious with any carbon-fiber or fiberglass body part, e specially hoods and trunks. While the initial fitment may be flush, I’ve seen fiberglass parts in particular bow over time. A classic example are the original hoods of ‘70 AAR Cudas and T/A Challengers:

Kinja'd!!!

A new-ish WRX in my SCCA region has a carbon fiber trunk and, while it looked good two years ago, I saw it earlier this month at an autocross and the fitment was...bad. Driver’s side gaps were fine but the passenger side made Tesla look good. I’m surprised it didn’t have any trunk leaks from the seals possibly not being fully seated. Maybe CarbonMiata doesn’t have those issues but just be aware that your future CF trunk may deform over time.

Personally, I don’t think CF looks good in a tan/black interior. Silver would make the interior appear more classy and upscale over the gloss back trim.

My original interior:

After installing silver trim from various ‘03-’05 Miatas:

CF works with your emerald green metallic paint like this NB1 Speedhunters featured years ago .

And the end of the day, you do you.  If it works out then let us know!  I’m back and forth on buying some CF parts from CarbonMiata once I take care of more expensive maters (engine swap) in the future.

I won’t be selling or tossing any of my OE parts, so if the CF parts don’t age well it won’t be the end of the world. I placed my order for the CF steering column cover today so we’ll see how that is once it arrives!

Beware the fitment on the trunk lid can be hit or miss. I don’t have any pics to back it up, but I have seen gaps in the Carbon Miata trunk lid large enough to see the trunk seal. Probably 7/16" to 1/2"

I can’t seem to find ne arly any photos, much less close-ups, of this trunk lid on cars.

It’s definitely tiny compared to Lafayette, several dozen cars or so maybe, but it seems in line with traditional C&C. I’ll try and be there next month, too.
